Where are you directing your energy — right now?
Are you focusing on events that are in the past … or worrying about the future?
When we dwell on events in the past — particularly those that trigger negative feelings (i.e. shame, disappointment, pain, or unhappiness), we actually strengthen these feelings — reinforcing neuro-pathways in the brain that drain our energy in the present.
Similarly, if we’re constantly obsessing over events in the future — either real or imaginary — we also diminish our ability to give our best in the present.
Today, observe your thoughts and check in with yourself periodically.
Are you being fully present to the person or task at hand — or is your mind “secretly’ wandering elsewhere?
