PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Happiest staying close to a small group of trusted friends or family, the wolf is most comfortable with a pretty steady routine. Wolves have a leadership mentality and are quick to take charge of life and business. They like to be the leader of the pack or to be part of a pack where they feel a deep sense of belonging.
The wolf was likely exposed to situations or events that made them feel unsafe or unprotected as a child. Over time the wolf becomes protective of their peace and values honor and loyalty above all. Wolf archetypes do not like to be challenged and are quick to remove people or cut ties with those considered to be less honorable or less trustworthy. In extreme situations, a wolf can sometimes have so many boundaries with people that they end up isolating themselves. So while they enjoy a smaller community, they often spend a lot of time alone.
Wolves prefer only doing business or having social connections with those aligned with their values. While they appreciate people have other opinions, they’re quick to disagree and share their opinion. The world is more black and white versus shades of grey in terms of how people should behave. This may seem like a simple way for a wolf to operate, but it makes things tricky for those around them as they have to navigate a wolf’s strong views and make sure to stay within the lines they construct.
WHEN TRIGGERED:
Usually calm and collected, a wolf mostly creates clear boundaries so that they can stay in a peaceful headspace. When hurt or angered, though, the wolf is quick to pounce and show their disapproval – usually quite abruptly and quite loudly. This can be shocking for those in relationship with a wolf, be it family or friends or colleagues.
The wolf archetype usually takes a very long time to cool off and regain their composure. Again, these life blocks come from a need for survival and feeling unsafe is an incredibly powerful motivating force, so understandably, this reaction will take time to recover from. This is very difficult for those in close relationships with a wolf, as they feel their anger, their disappointment and their disapproval. They feel frozen out and shut off. They fear being cast out of the pack and so they will need to choose their words wisely when bringing up a challenging topic. Wolves tend to cut contact to show their disapproval until the event passes or the behavior is corrected. Wolves do not usually tend to apologize, even if they are in the wrong at times. It’s their preference just to take a position of authority, make peace and not discuss the events, but to make their thoughts and views known for all to understand.
If a wolf has not learned the tools to master their emotions, an underdeveloped wolf will isolate so far due to their boundaries, that they can spend long stretches of time alone in their lifetime. This is not healthy for anyone, as we are social creatures, so they may experience isolation and even periods of depression. So a wolf will need to learn how to re-engage and to create a healthy social life for themselves. As the wolf learns to develop in the right way, they will learn to be a little softer with their boundaries, understanding that everyone can’t be perfect all the time, that we are all just doing our best with the resources we have.
HOW IT MAY BLOCK YOU:
The wolf archetype has very strong boundaries about how people should act around them. This can alienate a lot of people and cause the wolf to go into periods of loneliness and sadness.
In relationships the people around a wolf will have to tread lightly as they learn how they must behave around a wolf. This puts a lot of strain on those in a partnership and other relationships as people can sometimes feel like they’re walking on eggshells and don’t want to be cast out of the wolf’s pack.
At work, the wolf is a very strong leader with similarly strong boundaries on how things should run, so they need to work with people that do not challenge them much. This takes a certain personality type and is not for everyone.
MASTERING YOUR ARCHETYPE:
On the pathway to mastering this personality archetype, the wolf will learn to have smaller reactions and alienate people less. They will also learn to be more understanding of others and soften their boundaries at times. These lessons include understanding where the unconscious belief began, how the life block gets triggered, what the various reactions could be before healing, and how to make new choices when they’ve mastered their emotions. So the wolf eventually learns that they are safe and they don’t always need their guard up so high. They will learn that boundaries can also be unhealthy and keep them too isolated, so they will define new rules of engagement so they can have the love and connection they need. The wolf will become whole and complete again.
