PERSONALITY TRAITS:
The deer or stag archetype is typically regal in stature and enters the room with grace and poise. Early on in life, the stag typically felt separate and had feelings of not feeling good enough. Wishing they had more confidence, the stag spirit will want to cultivate skills and build up its self esteem to reach the regal nature they possess.
A healthy stag will slowly learn how to develop and master skills, and, as they do, their confidence will increase. They will develop a keen sense of self awareness and constantly align their life and their skillset to match the poise they seek. As this archetype learns to develop into a more confident version of its personality, the stag will be able to step into its power and grace.
At first the stag keeps themselves separate and walks much of the journey alone, giving them plenty of time for introspection and to ask the greater questions in life such as – who am I and who do I want to be in this world? What is this life about and what do I want? Through this exploration, the stag develops the ability to observe themself and develops self love as well as compassion for others. The stag holds themselves to a very high standard and wishes to surround themselves with similar personalities so that they never slip back into that old familiar feeling.
An unhealthy or underdeveloped version of the stag would have inner conflict as the stag spirit seeks to achieve greatness and so if the person doesn’t make the choices to align with its nature, there will be an inner struggle. This can cause a stag to become cynical, pessimistic and even have commitment issues as they tell the story that they’re fine on their own or that no one can fulfill their needs. Until the stag learns the tools to heal themself and master their emotions, there will always be some inner struggle – being very hard on themselves, being hard on those around them, always striving to be the best, expecting impeccable behavior from everyone, which can be exhausting over time, especially if the stag cannot pull back and find its balance.
WHEN TRIGGERED:
The stag archetype is very comfortable on their own as they had to learn how to be alone and establish a positive way to be independent. When triggered, the stag will often have a quick reaction as they are very sensitive. This reaction will be quick to respond and resolve, but if they are met with resistance, then the old familiar feeling of independence will rear its head and the stag will tell themselves “I’m fine on my own”, even if it’s not what they truly want. Again, this feeling of being alone and the resulting coping strategy of learning how to be fine on their own gives the stag its strength. As they learn self mastery, how to be healthy and resilient, the stag will be able to manage this reaction and choose to stay patient till they reconnect and resolve the issue at hand. On the flip side, if the stag hasn’t yet learned how to evolve in a healthy way, they can be impulsive and exit situations where empathy or compassion cannot be easily found. They may stay aloof or push people away permanently, recreating the situation that they are alone. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Until the stag learns to heal these unconscious survival patterns, and behaviors, they may choose the wrong partners and have short lived relationships, leaving them alone for long periods. It’s only when the stag learns to heal themself, that a happy and healthy loving relationship can be found. The stag will learn about themself and be able to choose a partner that will not trigger this response or a partner that will know how to reassure them.
HOW IT MAY BLOCK YOU:
The stag can be very lonely at times. Even when the stag wants to connect or be social, they can often find themself spending a lot of time alone.
In relationships, the stag will push people away, even when it’s counter to what they truly want – love and partnership – the stag will run the story “I’m fine on my own” and it will govern how it behaves. This can be very extreme in a stag that develops unhealthy behaviors as they will push away those they wish to be closest to.
In work and in partnerships or teams, the stag has a very high standard for how things should be done so they often take the burden of doing too much or for over giving. This means there will be less trust for their business partner and management team. It can also result in an inability to delegate tasks and responsibilities, leaving the stag exhausted as they constantly take on too much.
The stag, always looking the picture of poise, will not always express their needs, so they end up exhausted and alone.
MASTERING YOUR ARCHETYPE:
On the pathway to mastering this personality archetype, the stag will learn how to remain calm and think through things more rationally versus just reacting. They will learn where exactly they are triggered and how to recognize it when it happens, so that they can pause, reset and choose to stay connected. These lessons include understanding where the belief began, how the life block gets triggered, what the various reactions could be before healing, and how to make new choices when healed. So the stag eventually learns how to achieve that deep connection they crave and how to interact with those in their life without pushing away. The stag will become whole and complete again. With this shift, the stag will find balance and as they align with the type of person and the type of life they wish to lead, life will feel more peaceful and so will the stag.
