Mental health is something most people have a hard time with. Some say they’re fine. But are we? If we’ve learned anything during this last health crisis, is that we all need help managing our mental and emotional health.
We can’t ignore it anymore.
Over the last two years, it was like someone dialed up the volume on stress, anxiety and depression. Especially for those cities that experienced prolonged lockdowns.
So here we are, finally accepting that we need to learn how to better look after ourselves. So where do we start?
Here are some solutions to help you manage your mental health in 2022.
- Self-Care At All Costs – One of the most important things to do when suffering from stress and anxiety is to prioritize self-care. We often feel that we’re not being taken care of properly, which can make us feel even worse. We need to be able to operate with a full cup before we can look after our work and our loved ones with any success. Taking time to find ways to rest and recharge is vital to our overall mental and emotional wellbeing. Sleep, Quiet Time, Getting out with Nature to Ground and Finding Time to Laugh and Socialize are great ways to rest and reset.
- Quiet the Mind – Meditation is the most powerful practice to learn to quiet the mind and bring the body back to balance. There are many ways to do this, though, if meditation is not for you. The benefits of quieting the mind are astounding. It can boost your immune system, reduce stress and anxiety, and reduce pain and inflammation. It can also increase your brain’s processing speed, improving focus and productivity. However you choose to do this is fine. Some other ways to quiet the mind include grounding with nature. Just imagine your happy place, whether it’s with your feet in the sand on a beach or hiking in the mountains. As you do this, you are tapping into the earth’s electromagnetic field, which calms us down. Take a long walk or bike ride or engage in exercise that focuses your breathing. As you do this, you’re disengaging from other things and focused on your breath, which immediately relaxes the brain and mind. You can even focus on your goals as you do this and while you’re unplugged, you’ll notice the solutions just float into your awareness. Many of the greatest minds got their best ideas like this
- Surround yourself with people that bring value to your life – Many of us lose sight of what’s important when we are focused on success in our careers. We tend to let the rest of life slip by. Just remember though, as you are building, you need to include the right people in your life – those that spark joy, creativity, the support your goals and dreams. Always check in and ask “how am I feeling with this person?” and “what value are we bringing to each other?” The wrong people will drain you of energy and time and the right people will energize you.
- Fill your Sleep Bank – Not getting enough restful sleep at night could be a problem. Good quality sleep is not just about sleep hygiene; it’s also about managing your mental and emotional health so that when you lay down to rest, you can. If you’re not getting enough sleep, plan in naps. Even 20 minutes can give you hours more energy.
- Make the Shift to a Balanced Lifestyle – You need to ensure that your days aren’t too busy. Overworking yourself can cause symptoms to worsen, which shouldn’t be taken lightly. Start by scheduling in some relaxing activities daily because that will help make you healthier and happier as time goes on. Energy out cannot be greater than energy in. The things that replenish your energy are so necessary. So make time to rest more, play more, laugh more and reset your energy reserves.
To conclude, it’s important to be proactive and look after your mental health as much as you can. If you ever find yourself at a standstill or confused about your mental health, make sure you read career quotes or goal quotes, which can help guide you on the right track toward wellness.
